World of Warcraft Item Upgrades Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats. Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specified amount. Item Level The value of an item's base stats increases as it is upgraded. This value is the total of all of its leveled up benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, depending on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to the variety of perks that need to be modified to upgrade an item. It can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at a lower level. The average level of an item is listed on the character sheet. The level of an item will allow players to compare the potency of gear when they decide to buy or sell. It's a good gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it's capable of dealing with. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a vendor. On PC, you can see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, as well as its ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat. There are Casesgg about how the calculation of an item's level is made. One theory states that the item level is calculated using a formula that calculates the worth of an item's stats actually are. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems found in sockets increase the value of the item. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is typically close to the actual Blizzard level of the item. This isn't the only thing that affects the level of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped can alter its stats. For example, it could increase the item's haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances. Item Stats The stats of an item can make or break an item for players. The game utilizes them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon and to motivate them to try out other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modification, which are themselves enhanced by the player's level. Upgrades to the item add by boosting certain stats on the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item, for example, will only be upgraded one time and items that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher prices. This will cost a certain amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling. In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which of the available stats to be kept on an item when it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However every item will contain at least one stat in that range unless they are an exclusive item or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid. Another thing that can be modified by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis, and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be either lost or gained at the same time. Item Luck The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the chances of finding items as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the strength of the properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is more beneficial for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains. Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each level of the item. These can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing. The shields, armor and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the luck of the item up to 140. Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items can be found in the shop or created using the right ingredients. Item Failure Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful. When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the probability of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%.. The Luck of an item can affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has an initial success rate of 25%, and every item that has Luck increases that chance by an additional five percent. It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects could be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
